Great experience in working with Zoho Writer. It took a little extra time to publish this word document to my Blog, but it was worth it. Actually, it was easy after I carefully read the FAQ.

One of my favorite discoveries on this learning journey was how easy it is to set up and use a blog.

The online generators were fun to play with and I made Avators in two different formats. I have to find some sites on which to display these "techno women."

LibraryThing has some direct use at home as well at work, wikis at work for collaborative projects and Overdrive will be my favorite download site for books.

This program has helped kick-start me in many, unknown to me, directions of technology. I will continue to search out new and wondrous technology as I have always been hooked on the newest and latest...

I believe that one thing that could have helped those staff members who are "technology timid" would be to have small group sessions at the onset of the program. To help them set up their blogs and then be available for future help and questions.

Most certainly, I would again chose to participate in any similar program, should one be offered. I'd like to be introduced to ideas, projects, equipment, computers, technology, etc.

My learning experience in a few words:

challenging, enlightening, rewarding.

I looked at the Overdrive Digital Media. I established an account and place a title on hold, Debbie Macomber's complete collection of Cedar Cove. I am 7th on the list and it seems that most of the titles have waiting lists. I am sure that I will be awarded my MP3 player by the time that my title becomes available .

I then looked in the "Always Available Audio Books" and found several titles that I would like to download now:

Pride and Prejudice

Better Than I Know Myself

Hard Truth

Kabal Beauty School

This Side of Married

Reading some of the literature I found, DRM (digital rights management) and WMA world media audio) which is a compressed audio file format.

Project Gutenburg would be the site to use if you wanted to find the classic books that you have time to read now and that you should have read way back when...

Thing # 21 Discover search tools for locating podcasts

Looked in Podcast.net and did not find it as friendly as Yahoo Podcasts.
In Yahoo Podcasts I search on two topics: wine and booktalks...although not on the same search.
I found a very informative "Vineyard Uncorked" and actually subscribed to its series, 8 at this point.
I then went looking for a library driven series of podcasts and found "Booktalks Quick and Simple. I listened to Boot Camp talked by Nancy Keane. I, again, subscribed to this series, over 200+ one minute or less booktalks.

I really like this technology, podcasting, as it adds another dimension to webpages, blogs, wikis, etc.
I was able to RSS feed my two favorite Podcast series to my Bloglines account. Vineyards Uncorked and Booktalks Quick and Simple.

Great place to look for home made book reviews. Looked for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. Found quite a few choices...to view
Could use this site to also post children's/student reviews.

A friend had told me about the terrific original stage show of Dreamgirls...I looked for Jennifer Holliday's 82 Tony's Dreamgirls..."And I Am Telling You".

Amazing.

I found that it was extremely easy to add my blog address to the marylandlibrariessandbox. I was pleased to see how many other Carroll County librarians had already posted their blog sites.

Interesting...
+ Library 2.0 in 15 Minutes a Day...a similar program, in Oregon, as our 23 Things here in Maryland.
+ Book Lovers Wiki...giving patrons an opportunity to evaluate their favorite books.

What types of applications with in the libraries might work well with a Wiki:
+ Subject guides to help users find areas of interest
+ Annotating catalog, like Amazon.com
+ Community Wikis informing users of local clubs, organizations, activities, government.
+ Conference Information Wiki like the ALA 2006 Annual in New Orleans which was used to inform attendees of happenings, hotels, restaurants etc. An easy way to collaborate and share information.

What is in a WIKI?
It can be anything the originator wishes:
It is a collaborative planning and editing site.
It can be for conference planning, meetings, project space, a web based notebook to organize thoughts.

When I explored the following, I was not at all surprised about the "youtube" as being the TOP search.

The Top Favorited Blog: according to Technorati: "Boing Boing is a weblog of cultural curiosities and interesting technologies. It's the most popular blog in the world, as ranked by Technorati.com, and won the Lifetime Achievement and Best Group Blog awards at the 2006 Bloggies ceremony."

The Top Blogs would appear to be about gizmos, gadgets, and other technological subjects. No surprise here either. I do like electronics and gadgets ALOT and visiting here might keep me abreast of the latest/greatest. Let others figure out the validity and ease, etc.

I listened to the podcast/tutorial on Del.icio.us. I see this tool fitting into the needs of the academics who are teaching on the college level or who are in charge of amassing a great deal of information for their research positions. I thought for a while as to how I could use this tool and I concluded that it would best benefit me as an easy way to create bookmarks that can be accessed from anywhere. I have two computers at work and one computer at home and yes, the bookmarks are different on each computer.

I liked this site as, if I were so inclined, I could go through my home and catalog my personl collection. At this point, I have way too many items.
It does make me look at the ease with which this chore can be completed using this site.

Buy a CueCat scanner from LibraryThing. They're only $15, including shipping anywhere in the US. They plug into your USB port and read bar codes, including those pesky Borders product ids.

I had a good time looking at all the options offered by Flickr.
I uploaded a couple of photos from a trip to Maine in April 2006. I dropped them on Mappr.
I made a librarian trading card.
I found a neat Flickr Color Pickr photo of a yellow rose.

A mashup is a website or application that combines content from more than one source into an integrated experience.
Mappr is an interesting project which grabs uploaded photos that have been tagged with place names and places in on the Mappr. I dropped my three travel pictures on the Mappr. In Freeport and Portland Maine.
Flickr Color Pickr was interesting, I would use this kaleidoscope of colors. For wallpaper or illustrations for ppt. I found a very pretty yellow rose.
Montagr is not of interest to me.
I created a librarian trading card. Yeah!

"Emerging technologies and the WEB and the changing ways that people communicate."...and I am to be afforded the opportunity to strike out and learn this technology and ahead of most. As I work through these 23 items, I too will become more aware and be able to make and use: blogs, wikis, podcasting, video and image hosting sites. Imagine! I am really psyched about this technology, and even though, up to now, I have hung back instead of jumping in...I am now ready to go! (Where is my bathing suit? Never mind...)

# 6 Use Technology to Your Advantage.
I have access to a great deal of technology, as well as owing digital cameras, an iPod, laptops, printer. I also work with others who have a great deal of technology experience, so I will have mentors on which to call.

The HARDEST havit for me is:
# 4 Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner.
I often hang back watching others progress, work out the solutions/issues. I like to study other learners and learn from them. I then am ready to work with/teach others.

Interesting how when I grew up, there was only one way to learn...and that was the teacher's way. Thankfully, times have progressed and we have determined that everyone learns differently; visually, auditorily, manipulatives, etc.

Life long learning is what our public library is all about. Students, old or young, male or female, short or tall, thin or round, set their own goals and seek the subsequent answers in the public library. We are striving to meet their various learning styles with books, computers, AV, activities, classes, etc.
